South Florida Business Journal 2009 Business of the Year Awards, Finalists, 101-400 Employees

For 35 years, Current Builders has built its business through brick and mortar - and relationships. More than a third of its employees have been with the business 20 years or more. In turn, the company focuses both on the business needs - and the family needs of its employees. Each year, Current takes employees and their families on vacations to places such as the Turks & Caicos and the Dominican Republic. "This is a great way to bring the team together," CEO Chip Reid says. "We never lose sight of our appreciation for our employees."

Current also builds in its community. The company works with Rebuilding Together, which helps improve safety issues in neighborhoods; Habitat for Humanity, for whom the Current team built a house in seven days; and Toys for Tots, last year donating more than 200 bicycles to children in need.

For its efforts, Current has received more than 20 awards since 2005. In 2008 alone, the company was named a top-125 company in training and development by Training magazine, and received the Sunshine State Safety Recognition Award for two of its projects, 440 Flager Villages in Fort Lauderdale and Las Ventanas in Boynton Beach.

"We believe our proven track record of success relies on not only delivering a quality product, but also practicing business with the utmost ethics and valuing the people that help build the business," Reid says.
