Current Builders utilizes a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) process with Building Information Modeling (BIM) as the core enabling technology for multi-disciplinary management. VDC enables Current Builders to efficiently capture, process, and route information for project planning and delivery. BIM is integral to this process and Current Builders is a leader in implementing this technology within the local and national AEC industry.
Current Builders decided to implement BIM in late 2007 to address the proven pitfalls of traditional planning and change management processes. The implementation of BIM via our own VDC processes has shifted project planning and change management from a largely reactive system to a highly optimized one. This shift has empowered all team members with logistical foresight and realistic visualization capabilities to effectively consider viable solutions as the design is brought into reality.

VDC enables Current Builders to efficiently capture, process, and route information for project planning and delivery. BIM is integral to this process and Current Builders is a leader in implementing this technology within the local and national AEC industry.
Current Builders' VDC process involves the entire project team in order to capture individual knowledge from each participant into a refined building project plan. Although VDC uses new and innovative technologies and techniques, Current Builders continues to rely on proven and familiar procedures such as RFI's, change order requests, and shop drawings in the review and resolution of problems. Thus, the design intent is even more greatly protected by avoiding potential surprises.
Using BIM, the team will continuously review the facility design and inform it with construction-caliber information and detail. This information and detail includes systematically correlating costs with lead times, construction times, and constructability logistics. With BIM and project team collaboration, Current Builders will identify and eliminate design discrepancies and logistical issues in advance of construction. BIM can be very beneficial in showing how the building will be constructed in a step-by-step process that can be viewed, reconfigured, and adapted based on changing project conditions. Building code compliance, quality assurance and control, submittal review, and schedule performance are closely monitored by the project team as collaboration continues from planning and through the construction process. Additionally, BIM enables the VDC team to provide specific, enhanced information to the field in the form of task-specific drawings, quantities, simulations, and electronic layout data: often improving the precision, speed and accuracy of construction planning and performance.
While VDC requires an initially intensive effort by Current Builders' internal team, to outside team members the process is a non-intrusive, familiar and collaborative exercise. The VDC process often the expectations of participants in the reduction of coordination effort when compared to traditional/typical construction administration procedures. All of Current Builders' BIM/VDC projects to-date, have resulted in significantly reduced RFI's and change orders as well as resultant project delays and accompanying byproducts. This VDC process essentially multiplies the effects of time and effort invested early-on in the planning and construction process by preventing compounding waste throughout the remainder of the project.
